Staying Active When It’s Cold

Home By Geneva >> Staying Active When It’s Cold

During the winter months, working out and staying fit aren’t necessarily the first things you may think about. Winter is a time for making memories, staying warm and cozy inside, and enjoying hearty comfort food. This doesn’t mean you can’t still set aside your health and wellness goals! We compiled a list of activities for you to stay active with this season, even when it’s cold out!

Skiing/Snowboarding

Whether you’re a beginner or a veteran on the slopes, skiing or snowboarding is a great way to stay active! These sports involve core and leg strength and the stamina to control your speed and keep you on the path. If you feel adventurous, try the terrain park with ramps, rails, and boxes requiring more control over your body and pushes you to improve every time you go out!

There is no limit to how good you can be at skiing and snowboarding, and it is something you can look forward to every winter season for a good workout with your friends!

Cycling Classes

Cycling classes can be an amazing way to stay on top of your cardio goals when it is cold out. Whether you’re home or at a class at the gym, cycling offers a sense of community and a stellar workout! Purchasing a peloton is costly, we recommend attending classes at a local gym for your first experience to see if it’s worth the investment.

Cycling is an incredible way to increase your heart rate, feel the burn in your legs, and push yourself to be your best, and there is no better time to start than the winter!

Yoga

If you to improve your mental health and wellness indoors, yoga could be the perfect cold-weather idea for you! Yoga is a relaxing yet effective way to improve your balance, strengthen your core, and enhance your flexibility while staying away from harsh winter elements. If you are looking for a real challenge, attend a hot yoga class for a sauna-like feel while you are doing yoga, completely transforming a traditional yoga session into an intense workout.

There are so many positives about yoga for all facets of your health and wellness, we highly recommend giving this a shot!

Indoor Gym Workouts

When it’s cold out, there’s no better time to go to the gym for your workouts! If you normally get your exercise through outdoor activities, continue working towards your fitness goals by utilizing your local gym! Whether it is working out on machines designed to focus on specific muscle groups, free weights, basketball, swimming, or taking classes, the possibilities to achieve your personal wellness goals are endless!

Use the colder months to work on your fitness so you can make the most and feel your best for the warmer months!

Outdoor Activities

If you don’t mind braving the elements for your workout, there are a few activities you try while it’s cold out! Hiking allows you to take in the beautiful winter sights in the forest or the mountains! If the path is not icy or wet, taking a run while it’s cold still gives you the cardio you need while your body is cool and comfortable. If there’s snow on the ground, try snowshoeing, sledding, or even a snowball fight for your cold-weather workout! There is a wide array of options available for you to get a workout in the cold. Be sure to keep your health in mind and to watch out for ice!

We hope you find these recommendations useful and encourage you to try a few of these activities out! Although it’s cold outside, there are still so many opportunities available for you to improve your health and wellness! We wish you the best of luck on your personal journey!
